Overview
Meta Nitrochlorobenzene (MNCB), also sold as 3-Nitrochlorobenzene, m-Nitrochlorobenzene, m-Chloronitrobenzene, 3-Chloronitrobenzene or 1-Chloro-3-nitrobenzene, is a pale yellow to yellowish-brown crystalline compound widely used as a versatile building block in organic synthesis. It has the molecular formula C6H4ClNO2 and a molecular weight of 157.56. As one of the three chloronitrobenzene isomers, the meta form offers specific reactivity that makes it a preferred raw material for a broad range of downstream derivatives. It is produced by the nitration of chlorobenzene followed by separation of the meta isomer.
