What’s “Pigment Red 57:1”?
Pigment Red 57:1, also known as Lithorubrine BCA, is a blue light red powder with the chemical formula C18H12N2 Na2O6S and CAS number: 5281-04-9. It is insoluble in ethanol, but soluble in hot water and appears yellowish red. It is prepared by diazotization and coupling reaction and has high coloring power and 4~5 levels of light fastness. ‌

The latest research trend shows that recent studies have focused on its crystal phase stability. For example, rosin treatment can reduce the solubility of β – phase in water, delay its transition to α – phase, and improve the transparency, vividness, and coloring power of pigments.
