Chemical raw materials

Methanol is a colorless, volatile, and flammable liquid with a slight alcoholic odor. Its chemical formula is CH3 OH and it is the simplest saturated monohydrate. Due to its initial production through dry distillation of wood, it is commonly known as “wood alcohol” or “wood essence”. In modern industry, methanol is mainly synthesized through the catalysis of carbon monoxide and hydrogen, and is widely used in fields such as chemical engineering, fuels, and solvents.
Main features and applications:
Physical properties: The boiling point is about 64.7 ℃, and it can dissolve in organic solvents such as water and ethanol in any proportion. Steam and air can form explosive mixtures.
Industrial applications:
Methanol, as a basic chemical raw material, is used to produce various organic chemicals such as formaldehyde (accounting for about 40% of global methanol consumption), acetic acid, methylamine, and chloromethane;
Methanol is commonly used as a solvent in the production processes of paints, inks, resins, adhesives, etc;
Methanol, as a clean fuel, can be used as automotive fuel or mixed with gasoline, and is also applied to fuel cells (such as direct methanol fuel cells);
Methanol is used in the production of antifreeze, denaturing agents (making industrial ethanol non drinkable), and biodiesel.
